A 60's Timepiece

Visit the Rose Collection @ Brandeis. This was a very special collection at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. This collection had a wide variety of mostly contemporary artwork including art from a particular time period. One particular exhibit at the museum was an exhibit called The Undisciplined Collector by Mark Dion.
This collection was a room filled with items and artifacts from the 1960's which have an incredible effect on the viewer especially from this new, modernized 21st Century because they are able to see items which are so simple and practical such as radios, television sets,  and record players.  Some of the items in this room were donated by benefactors of the University including the actress Joan Crawford.  Crawford used her celebrity and wealth quite generously by enriching the theatre and dance programs at the University.  Crawford also donated an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Oscar of hers to this collection which are some of the many honors she has received for her prestigious career in Hollywood and Broadway.  These awards are in display cases in this room along with other items collected by the University the year the museum was opened in 1961. This room had an enigmatic feeling which made the viewer appreciate and question this time period. The appreciation of the room and collection derived from the rich history which filled the room and the questioning came from the unknown and the unanswered such as why was this the way it is? Or what artifacts from this time period have been modernized and used in today's society and culture? So to summarize, this collection was brilliant because it was a room which will always remain in the year of 1961.
