Simba Waited to be King

review by Sammy Gelerman

The musical theatre production of Disney’s The Lion King performance at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence Rhode Island, was an outstanding performance for all ages, and all creative minds. The artistic imagery and choreography makes this story easy to fall into. Your mind will completely focus, making you believe your involved in the story yourself.
Right from the beginning, the costumes were breathtaking. Everything looked personally hand made for each character. They were colorful, detailed and most had moving parts. There is no way to justify how each actor flawlessly stayed in their character’s voice, and how beautifully sang their songs.
This performance will make you feel like a child again living in a magical experience. The audience was engaged at all times, and would even sing along will all of the songs. The enthusiasm throughout this performance was contagious.

At the end of the show, the character playing the monkey made an announcement about international woman’s day. She called all of the woman who work seven days a week behind the scenes of the show up onto the stage. We were thanking them and woman like them who work this hard to make a living. The crowd was wild cheering at this point, and it was a great way to end such mesmerizing production. It was the cherry on top of a giant ice cream!
