Art to infinity

by Justin Dormitzer

Josiah McElheny was born in 1996 and is mostly known for his art that uses glass and glass blowing. He works in New York but his work has been featured all over the world.  He has also taught at many places including the Yale school of art. Places also have had him as their artist or critcic in residence.
Endlessly Repeating Twentieth Century Modernism by Josiah McElheny is a very intriguing piece of contemporary art. The work is inspired by architect Buckminister Filler and sculptor Isamu Noguchi. It consists of hand blown glass sculptures stretching into infinity because of mirrors. Each side of the cube has different shaped sculptures ranging from smooth to bumpy. The artwork conveys a sense of order.

The piece is effective because it is so unique. Many people have seen infinity mirrors before but this piece is special because it has all of the blown glass sculptures inside of it. That way there are multiple things to focus on. There is the overall effect of stretching into infinity but also each piece of glass is a piece of art as well. There are interesting shapes in all of them and they all reflect each other.
