MFA Boston, review by Ann-Sophie Störmann

Magnificent, Fascinating, Amazing by Ann-Sophie Störmann

You can’t miss it. In the middle of Boston there is the MFA-The Museum of fine arts. You can find everything from Egyptian Mummies to Greek sculptures, to ancient instruments and contemporary masterpieces. There is something for everyone. Welcomed by a giant green glass-tree you already start loving this museum. If you go on walking you will finally pass through the contemporary art gallery. Here you can find special and impressing paintings and sculptures, some of them with an interesting background. Like Lumière made by Christian Boltanski in 2000. It is basically a square made up of light balls hanging down the wall. In the middle there is a small, black square showing the image of a deceased little girl, Sylvie. You can figure she died, because Boltanski built memorials to memory and loss. If you look at her you can’t make eye contact with her, you just see a clear image of YOURSELF. Is it scary or is it just normal? You can’t tell, it is probably different for everyone. Boltanski built this memorial off of his Jewish father’s stories about hiding in Paris during the war. The disability of making eye contact with the girl is probably a symbol of the hiding. There is not only this one fascinating piece of art, no, there is so much more, you can explore in the Museum of Fine Arts!
