The Sound from the God

review by Justin Chen

The Boston Symphony orchestra’s performance happened in March 16, 2017 in Boston Symphony Hall is a wonderful interpretation of music. By playing three different orchestra pieces, the music is well interpreted and really offered a fantastic music experience on Debussy’s Nocturnes, Haydn’s Symphony 60 and the Beethoven’s sixth symphony.
The Haydn’s Symphony 60 is an astonishing music. It starts with two strong beats and the music becomes really soft. The softness remains until the third movement- Menuetto, the music suddenly become very fast. The music sometimes is soft sometimes in those movement. But at the moment you get used to the soft, the music turning into a fast and a strong tempo. And at the moment you get used to the fast beat, the music is turning back to a soft tempo. The composer use a massive amount of this changing. It is fantastic because the music is not boring at all. When the music like this is performed, the audience will be like listening and wondering what is this music going to be like at the next moment. The finale is massive and ambitious. It is not an anti-climax. At the last movement, the composer pushed the music into its climax. Even when the music ends. Your ears are still playing this music.
The Beethoven’s sixth symphony is a less known symphony if it is compared with other symphony that Beethoven composed such as symphony NO.5 and NO.9. However, this piece is another master piece as well. The reason why this music is wonderful because its formatting is similar as the Haydn piece. The reason why it sounds similar because Haydn used to be the teacher of Beethoven. Haydn is famous for the changing tempo of the music. So does Beethoven, the music’s tempo changes a lot however the music is highly ornate.  Beethoven put a lot of instrument together but playing different melody. It is so fun to listen different melody that play by different instrument at the same time. It’s chaotic but it’s not disorganize. The part movement Presto is the essence of the piece. The Music starts fast. But as the Oboe comes in, the feeling of a quietness and calmness surrounded by the audience. It is fantastic that feel the feeling of the music.
Debussy’s Nocturnes is absolutely wonderful. The music is like a piece of painting. The music offered the audience a quiet farm life in the central Europe. It is wonderful that the music can let my head paint the picture while this music is playing. The reason why the music is amazing because the music is so quiet with all those instruments are playing on the stage. Debussy is utilizing oboe and flute to make this music really sounds quiet and wonderful.

It is so fantastic to listening this music that from classical era to Romantic era. The Boston Symphony Orchestra interpret the music wonderfully.
