Midnight in Paris

The movie Midnight in Paris was about
a man named Gil who was writing a novel. He was traveling to Paris, his
favorite place, with his fiancĂ© Inez, and her parents on vacation. He can’t
stand one of his fiancĂ©s friends because Inez’s friend seems to know everything
so Gil always trys to one up him for Inez’s attention. One night after the 2
couples went out to dinner they wanted to go dancing but Gil decided not to go.
Instead he took a walk around Paris. He was sitting on some steps around
midnight when a very old car pulled up. The people inside the car were dressed
in clothes from the 20’s and invited him inside. This car brought him back with
them into the 1920s where he got to meet some of the most iconic writers from
that time.
The movie was strong overall with a
plot that you could follow easily. It had a good contrast between the
relationship of Gil and Inez, and his travels back to the 20’s. They both
related to each other because Gil’s travels confused Inez because she had no
way of understanding where Gil was going at night, which placed strain on their
relationship. This constant back and forth throughout the movie kept it
interesting to watch because you never knew what was going to happen with them.
There was also a slight comedy to
the film. For example, Inez’s father was suspicious to where Gil was going at
night so he hired a private detective to follow him and see where he would go.
He followed him back to the 20’s and got stuck there. In the movie when the
family was discussing what the detective found he said that they didn’t hear a
report back because the detective went missing. Then they show the detective
confused in a castle in the 20’s being chased by guards. They tried to make the
film not completely stuck in its main plot. They tried to lighten the feeling
of the film with scenes like that.
This film is worth watching. It has
informational elements when it gives you a look into the personal lives of the
famous writers he finds in the 20’s. But it also has a love story plot mixed in
so it isn’t just factual. This well-balanced theme created a great plot that
kept you interested through the movie.
